• Q.How long will my Deed Poll be valid for?

    A.Your Deed Poll will be valid for 28 days as an Identity Card (IC) holder is required to apply for a replacement IC within 28 days of changing his/her name.

  • Q.Can I do a Deed Poll if I am a foreigner?

    A.It is possible to make a Deed Poll in Singapore for purposes such as work passes, employment passes and blue NRICs. However, not all Deed Polls executed in Singapore will be valid in other countries. While there are some foreign jurisdictions that recognize Singapore Deed Polls, you should always check with the relevant Foreign Embassy or Consulate Office in Singapore on whether your country will accept a Singapore Deed Poll first before making an application for a Deed Poll in Singapore.

  • Q.Do I need a Deed Poll to change my name after marriage?

    A.If you only wish to add your married name to your existing name, you may use your Marriage Certificate to reflect the change and will not require a Deed Poll.

  • Q.Do I need any special documents if I am Muslim? What if I am converting or renouncing my Muslim faith?

    A.You do not need any special documents (such as an Islamic Certificate) to do a Deed Poll if you are a Muslim. You can change name or surname to any Islamic name or delete any Islamic name.

  • Q.Do I have to head down to the Immigration & Checkpoint Authority (“ICA”) to update my change of name?

    A.It is possible to make an online application to update your change of name through IC Online.

    You can find out what documents are required for an online application at https://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=140. The processing time for online applications is around 3 working days and the fee payable is S$60 according to the ICA website.
